22 Weird and Beautiful Caterpillars

quote [ Actually, a caterpillar is a young butterfly or moth that has just hatched out of its egg. Their look varies from scary to cute, but they always grab my attention when I find one in my garden. ]

They are all beautiful.

Nice. I wish there were pictures of the eventual butterfly counterparts.

#7, 9, 10 turn into relatively drab moths mostly shades of brown and cream. But some have striking green streaks on the abdomen and wings that are quite pretty.

some other interesting stuff around the site too: http://www.boredpanda.com/g-spot-mouse-by-andy-kurovets/

also, the caterpillar photos are great, but a little blurb accompanying each would have been nice. at least a name, in case someone wanted to do a little further research.

+1 Bored Panda. I didn't know the site existed before now, but I'm in love.

#7 and 9 (I think) and 10 (for sure) are part of a family called Limacodidae. Also known as slug moths. They're cool because they've lost all of their pro-legs and only have sucker pads. I'm currently creating a phylogeny for them using genetic markers.
