read 'Heart of Darkness' when you are depressed, what a great read and the basis for 'Apocalypse Now'. Almost as good as 'Invisible Man' for a look into the dark goatse soul of the grinding plague that is imperial expansion and the void black empty heart it leaves the losers and conquered. The shopping cart crept through another hell hole american town gutted from the money and people wars of the us. gutted empty buildings, squalor, the stench of misery for a country constantly at war, billions spent to napalm and du folks in distant places, no job, no quarter, no kindness in the heartland. long ago the puritan and christian capitalism became endless rape and awe, so terrible in its hunger, its desire to take all and blame the victim, to torture and imprison millions more, just like jesus the old psycho would approve. around the next bend of the ribbon of concrete snaking through ho city, a barrage of unemployed, homeless, uninsured, starving senior posse, hurled spears and multif cocktails, suddenly the captain at the helm of the shopping cart is on-fire. |

I've been a fan of yours for years, but I think that second paragraph is one of the most beautiful things you've ever written. I'm imagining Steven "Jesse" Bernstein growling it into a microphone between sets at a punk rock show in the late 1980s. |
